Hello Wally,
Enjoyed the SJR article this AM, which is where we learned of your local eating efforts. Was especially interested in learning whay/how is was you lost weight by eating locally.

Looking forward to hearing more and making our first stab at "local-voring" this summer.

Hi, Joe! Thanks for dropping by!

I could lose weight by counting calories, but it's always been a hassle. Every time I want to eat something, I have to figure out how many calories it has! Eventually, of course, I would start to forget to look up the calories, and that would be the end of the weight loss!

By eating locally, you're eating plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits, which is exactly what dietitians keep saying we should be eating! If your lunch is broccoli, carrots, and strawberries, you probably aren't going to take in nearly as many calories as you would eating, well, just about anything the average American eats for lunch.

On top of that, if we had to make our own junk food, how much would we actually eat? If we had to make our own potato chips, pretzels, french fries, ice cream, candy, etc, I think it is unlikely that we would find ourselves eating nearly as much as we do when we can just buy them at the grocery store.

As a result of things like this, even without going to the effort of counting calories, you'll probably lose weight almost automatically.

I haven't yet been posting my weight on the blog, but I should start doing that soon. Thanks for the reminder!

Good luck with your own locavore efforts! If you have any questions or find any good sources of local foods, please share!
