The share we picked up on August 23 included onions, chard, potatoes, peppers, garlic, cucumbers, and (new since week 13) scallions and patty pan squash.
In addition to being right in the middle of our move to our new house, this week's pickup date was also notable because it was the day that Barack Obama was here in Springfield to make his first public appearance with Joe Biden. The event was taking place on the grounds of the old state capitol. The normal CSA pickup location is at the Old Capitol Farmers' Market, which was canceled due to the security and inevitable crush of people that would be there.
Instead, the pickup was at Food Fantasies, the local health food grocery store. Because we were distracted trying to get moved, I was late getting away and got there just after the 11:00 AM cutoff time. Luckily Andy was still there and was able to dig out my share!
Not that our kitchen was in any shape to cook anything! We still have the 2 patty pan squash, which we haven't yet researched for cooking ideas. Any suggestions?
P.S. An estimated 35,000 people turned out for the Obama/Biden event.
