And there was much rejoicing! (Well, okay, I was happy. My wife is a vegetarian, so she gave me and the chicken a wide berth.)
I will freely admit that it wasn't the world's greatest chicken (the cooking, I mean). However, given that it was my first time ever cooking it and it didn't suck, I'm quite happy.
I did make a few mistakes:
- I started melting the butter in the skillet, then realized that I hadn't yet preheated the oven. Oops.
- I had the flame too high and scorched the butter. Oops. At that point, I should have just rinsed out the skillet and started over, but I didn't. Double oops.
- I picked 2 small pieces (a drumstick and a wing) and one very large piece (a breast). This meant that, after 30 minutes in the oven, the 2 smaller pieces were ready, but according to the meat thermometer the larger piece was not. It was another 20+ minutes before the larger piece was ready. Oops. However, I was just cooking for myself and had told Dawn from the beginning not to wait for my dinner to be ready, so that was okay.
All in all it went fairly well and now that I've tried it once, I will hopefully be better at it next time! I can say that my scrambled eggs have gotten better over the last few months, so there's reason for hope.
